It's Alive!

Holy canolies...

It's alive. It's real. It's .... MINE! I can't believe this, it's madness!

Moving on....Over the weekend, I met the adorable Christina Arbini for a movie I've been wanting to see for quite some time...BECOMING JANE. We met at the Tully's coffee shop for some chat & coffee and then headed up to the theatre for our matinee.

The theatre was full of people who obviously love Jane Austen and know quite a bit about her life and when the trailer for THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB came on, a bunch of people (including us!) gasped. The release date is September 24th and I can guarantee I will be there!

BECOMING JANE is a sweet movie about taking risks, defending your beliefs...and ultimately, sacrifice. It was well done and I really enjoyed it, even getting teary-eyed at times. The ending is just wonderful and I left the theatre with a strong desire to re-read some Austen classics such as PERSUASION and SENSE AND SENSIBILITY.

I love movies about writers. If you have any writer movies you love, I'd like to hear about them!

Some good news...and a case of the Trilogies

Got some great news from my agent last night....looks like my second book ANA-LYNX-IA will be an August 2008 release rather than November, so that's some fun news. The cover art is being worked on right now so I should have that in the next few months or so.

ANA-LYNX-IA was an interesting book to write for me: it was the first one I plotted out completely before I started, the first where there was an extremely clear goal, motivation and conflict and most of all, a heroine who was alive to me from day one. No wonder it only took me about two months to write it. The topic (eating disorder) wasn't something I have first-hand experience with, but I did see several friends in HS go through the painful experience and I know what it does for someone's mental state.

I want that same writing magic to kick in as I start on my next set of books. A trilogy. The Montego Bay Sisters Trilogy will feature three sisters, Zephyr, Jade and Ivory Lahiri who are relocated from Montego Bay, Jamaica to New York City due to family conflict. A trip to the Carribbean might be in order to do some research into my girls and their background =)
I hear the Carribbean has the clearest water, the friendliest people and the best pina coladas in the world. I'm seriously thinking about booking a vacation to get my inspirational writer juices started.

The books are tentatively called Zephyr in the Sky, Jaded and Within the Ivory Tower. I am working out the three book proposal now and hopefully will be able to start writing by the end of the month. My agent and I are hammering out all the kinks before we submit the Trilogy to Kimani for (hopefully) 2009 release dates.

Happy Tuesday!

The Cover

I am woefully behind in my updates to what's been going on post-Dallas, but I have been *semi* good about updating the Buzz Girls Blog on my latest shenanigans. One shenanigan is that I have been kind of reluctant to openly share my cover for HOW TO SALSA IN A SARI. I think it's because I love it so much and wanted to keep it to myself for just a bit longer.

But it's time for people to see it. So, here it is.

The art director actually took my idea for having Cat and Issa standing back-to-back Mr. and Mrs. Smith style on the cover with Issa in a sari. So yay!
What else? Dallas was just amazing. I met so many of my online friends, made some new ones and finally got to see all the Buzz Girls (and virtual Marley) in one place. Between the bad food, the free books, and the spooky ghost story, 2007 RWA was truly a conference I won't forget for a while =)
I took a ton of pics. Have a look:
Also, **** Kiki ****, if you're out there, please contact me! I have a copy of VENUS ENVY for you and I can't get a hold of you via email =)
